I’m sure that I’m not the only one longing for spring to arrive, I hate the long dark winter nights and I miss the birdsong too! So I thought it would be nice to look at some spring fabric designs for children. What you may not realise is that many of the spring and summer designs are actually finalised in autumn and winter. This can sometimes mean that the colours we see are a little on the dark side, it can be really difficult to think in light and bright colours when your cold and miserable!
Personally I love fun and quirky designs especially for children, who should be out exploring and making memories. So without further ado let’s get onto the fabrics, shall we?
This super fun take on the Walrus is a quirky and fun fabric, I love the ocean and I think this a really unique take on a mammal less talked about! The greatest threat to the Walrus is climate change something I’m very keen on doing my part to reduce.
Foxes have been pretty big in children’s clothing especially the younger children. If you love Yoga and want to get your little one involved you can’t go wrong with the Yoga Fox to join in too! I really love this aqua colour its bright but also compliments the oranges too and its unisex!
Who said Yeti’s can’t be around in spring and summer? I fell in love with this Yeti design over winter and I really wanted to have a spring and summer friendly version! So here it is bunnies and birds and all! Yellows are set to be big this year in all shades so lets bring Yeti into the sunshine shall we?
Cute Woodland Animals
You may have already seen the Enchanted Animals fabric if you follow me on social media. I absolutely adore this fabric and it works so well for Over it alls, Hushabye Harems and Leah and Lucas Leggings. I’ve also made a bow headband out of this beautiful design! How cute are the animals in this?
Ok I know this one is a darker background but look at all those bright colours! Plus I think the darker background really makes the planets pop. I’ve used this fabric a fair bit and I adore it. Being a bit of a science ‘geek’ in school I’ve always loved space. Personally I think this fabric design can be used year round.
So I’ve spoken about fabric designs for spring but I also should talk about fabric bases! What are they I hear you ask, well simply put fabric bases are the raw material that the designs above are printed on. These bases are usually white which is why the back of the clothing is white and not the same colour as the front facing fabric.
As I get most of my fabric custom printed specifically for your order I am able to print on a variety of bases, however, I tend to print on mostly cotton jersey. I will however pop some of the bases I can print on below.
This is my most used fabric, I use it for Over it alls, Leah and Lucas Leggings and Hushabye Harems. Made from mostly cotton I tend to use compositions of either 95% Cotton and 5% Elastane or 92% Cotton and 8% Elastane. The elastane is what gives the garment stretch it also comes in various weights, that’s something I consider when making items depending on the season, after all you don’t want to be cold in the winter and too hot in the summer!
I’ve not yet had the pleasure of printing onto this fabric base but I hope to in the future! The bamboo lycra base I can print on has a composition of 95% bamboo and 5% elastane. Bamboo has temperature regulating properties, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter so with a gsm of 220 it’s a great base to use. Bamboo lycra is marginally more expensive to print on so currently I would print on this base only if specifically requested. Let me know if bamboo lycra is something you’d like to see more of!
This base has absolutely no stretch at all and is currently used for items such as the Rosa Mae and Mia dresses. Cotton poplin has a composition of 100% cotton, it is light weight, breathable and can be machine washed and tumble dried. I personally find cotton poplin really easy to care for and it can be used year round if you mix and match.
I hope you found this blog helpful in finding some unique fabric designs for your little ones this spring and summer! Do you have any favourite colours or fabrics you think will be really popular this year? If so let me know in the comments!
